We love shining the spotlight on our local mamas. They give and do so much day in day out and the next mama we are celebrating is a model for balance, kindness and dedication. Our May Motivating Mom of the Month has become a determined and positive force over the last two seasons of Run Club! We admire her ability to gracefully balance work and all things motherhood, her positivity and support of other moms and her enthusiasm for FIT4MOM. We are honored to celebrate Laura Veneman this month!
Here is what our instructor team has to say about Laura:
"It is with great enthusiasm that I celebrate this month’s motivating mom! Laura is a woman who defines commitment, strength, heart and hustle in all she does as a friend, a mother, and a professional. Whether she is up early mornings prepping meals for her family before her commute into NYC, working long hours at a *new* position with skill and determination, or rushing home to give her all to her family, she does it with the most positive, selfless attitude! If she’s not including her Charlie in her know-no-boundaries training run, it’s because it’s past his bedtime when she illuminates the night with her stroller - no excuses for this fit mom. As her Run Club coach I can attest to her will, progress, commitment and unstoppable efforts - in running and in life. I have been fortunate enough to know Laura since she became both a mother AND a runner, and wow, is it amazing to be alongside her on her amazing journey! Laura, I celebrate you today and everyday for being one of the most motivating moms I know"! - Instructor Lisa
"Laura is a great example of a hard working mama and it’s so wonderful to recognize that as we honor her as this month’s motivating mama! Her effort and excitement to give it her all shines through in her workouts and her devotion to Charlie. She is kind and welcoming and a great example for our mamas, especially those who perform the often difficult task of juggling dedication to both their family and career all the while remembering to take care of themselves too! Congratulations Laura on this recognition, we’re so lucky to have you and Charlie as part of Our Village"! - Instructor Carolyn
"Laura is such an inspiration for all moms within our village. As a member of Run Club for two consecutive seasons we have seen Laura blossom as a runner. That does not come as a surprise though. Laura joined us saying “I am not a runner.” Well this non runner then began to put in long hours commuting to work and and then spent her evenings in the dark with her stroller outfitted with lights to do her training. She shows up every week strong and full of spirit! Not to mention she’s always playing the best music. Laura is constantly thinking of others and is always cheering everyone on which is why I am so glad that we get to honor her this month". - Instructor Colleen
"How timely it is to honor Laura as she completes yet another successful and inspiring Run Club season! Laura’s passion and enthusiasm are so motivating and uplifting! Laura has really stood out in our Run Club, challenging and encouraging her teammates and always taking her own goals to the next level. In classes, Laura works just as hard, constantly pushing her personal limits. Laura’s friendliness and relaxed nature have similarly distinguished her within our community. I love when Laura takes class because I know she will be there with a smile while also focusing on her self and her little one. Laura, we are so fortunate to have you as part of Our Village and we thank you for being such an asset to our Run Club! Congratulations"!! - Instructor Sarah
Who are the members of your family?
My husband is Chris and we have a 2 year old son, Charlie.
2. What is/was your career?
I am a buyer of dresses for Macy’s Backstage in NYC.
3. List 3 of your favorite things:
Baking (sharing my own recipes via my baking blog), running, and anything Charlie-time
4. What would your partner say is your best quality?
“Your generosity, you always think of others before yourself” -Chris
5. How long have you been a member of FIT4MOM Southeast Fairfield County, and what has it done for you?
Lisa convinced me (as well as many other PHA moms) to try Strollers Strides 2 years ago. Fit4Mom has provided me a great community of moms and a chance to take care of myself while enjoying the time I have with Charlie. Given how much time I work and commute it’s hard for me to justify working out since it takes me away from my son. Fit4Mom and Run Club have given me an opportunity to spend time with Charlie and accountability of the community to make the time to workout.
6.What is your favorite class exercise?
Huge Run Club fan, I love the group runs; it’s a great chance to have a check in on your progress!
7. What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?
I am truly surprised how strong of a person I’ve become since having my son. You can’t predict where motherhood will take you, but the strength of being a mom has proven I can tackle any challenges life throws as me!
8. What is your proudest mommy moment so far?
Seeing the amazing person my son is becoming has been a proud moment for me. I try to lead by example and push myself to try things outside of my comfort zone, like running, in hopes Charlie will pick up some good habits. Charlie now loves running which he lets me know he’s wants to do by telling me “ready set go” which melts my heart every time he wants to go!
9.Any advice for other moms out there?
You have to find a community of support! Motherhood can be tough and as soon as you think you figured it out, some new milestone will hit and you’ll have to adjust. The mom-friends I’ve made have been invaluable as I attempt to learn this thing called motherhood.
Laura, thank you for being part of our village! We can't wait to see you shine during our next season of Run Club!
