September 2018's Motivating Mom of the Month

It is with great excitement we get to honor our next Motivating Mom! This mom has become such a positive and supportive force in Our Village over the last two and half years! Her dedication to Run Club, her work ethic and focus in class and the way she balances career and motherhood are truly impressive and we are so excited to celebrate the beautiful Kim Herzog this September!

Here is what our instructor team has to say about Kim:

"It's with such excitement that we get to honor Kim this month as our motivating mom! This talented woman is one after my own heart: an avid reader and book lover, a passionate educator who clearly loves what she does, and a dedicated, self-motivated learner as a both a mom and a professional. I have been fortunate enough to know Kim for years and see her evolve as a mom (and a mom of two!), a FIT4MOM, and a runner! Kim has always been so dedicated, whether she was hitting her workouts hard during summers and her maternity leaves, or giving all she had to those weekend classes upon returning to work. If her boys ever need her, you will always hear a reassuring word to big brother Jonah or a confident, controlled calm with baby Ryder - all while really kicking it up at class. There is no doubt that Run Club has become a place for Kim to shine as she powers through each and every training session and group run with stamina, speed, and success - all after long days and nights with her boys AND returning to work. Kim is an incredible source of strength on our team and in our village and I love that we can celebrate all she is to us! We love you, Kim!" - Instructor Lisa

Kim has become such a source of positivity and strength within our village. Whenever Kim shows up to class she is there to support any women beside her and to work hard. Even the chatter from within her stroller is always positive. You can always find Jonah cheering his mommy on or singing right along side her". - Instructor Colleen

I am so excited that we are honoring Kim this month as motivating mom! Kim joined us for both her maternity leaves and embraced motherhood as well as FIT4MOM classes with a fierce drive! She is dedicated, works hard and is devoted to her children. I always love working out alongside of Kim because she inspires me to work harder such as when I recently attended run club and had the pleasure of watching her lead the pack! Kim is outgoing in classes, super friendly and always happy to chat and share parenting stories with the Mamas next to her. I love observing her parent her boys with love and respect for who they are as people. Kim you are amazing and we are so happy to have you as part of our village!"- Instructor Meg

"Kim is such a role model!! Her positive attitude is an asset to our community, as is the example of “100% effort at all times” that she sets. Kim is passionate and dedicated. She accepts challenges and proves to herself that she is capable of more than what she envisioned. She sets personal goals and works towards them, little by little, until all of a sudden, she has met or exceeded the goal she set. This spring and summer we watched Kim transition into her new role as a mom of two, build her strength, surpass her goals, and inspire everyone in her path.Kim is exceptionally well-rounded. She rocks our Stroller Strides/Barre classes, is part of our Run Club, will chat with other moms new and veteran alike, is a major Boss Mom of a teacher, and is passionate about reading for pleasure. Kim’s adorable, good-natured boys are a testament to the attention to detail she puts into every aspect of her life. Kim, we are truly blessed that you are part of Our Village!! Congratulations and Love!!!” - Instructor Sarah

Meet Kim:

Who are the members of your family?

My husband, Jordon, toddler Jonah (2 1/2) baby Ryder (20 weeks) and crazy dog Noodle.

2. What is/was your career?

This is my 13th year teaching English at Staples High School in Westport, and I now coordinate a program for students to design their own course of study beyond the school’s curriculum through Independent Learning Experiences. I’m also helping to plan Saugatuck StoryFest (saugatuckstoryfest.com), the first annual weekend-long literary festival in Connecticut that celebrates storytelling in all its forms (shameless plug).

3. List 3 of your favorite things:

my family, books and music, especially live concerts

4. What would your partner say is your best quality?

“Dedication”

5. How long have you been a member of FIT4MOM Southeast Fairfield County, and what has it done for you?

As soon as I was cleared for exercise after baby #1, so that’s almost two and a half years (!)! At the beginning, it gave me sanity - it got me out of the house and allowed me to focus on myself and on getting stronger, without sacrificing time with my baby. As a new mom, it gave me support to be surrounded by women who were going through similar experiences, or who had gone through it already and were able to give the best advice. Now, it still gives me sanity but has made me recognize that I can surpass the expectations I have for myself, and that I am stronger than I ever realized. But most importantly, it’s given me and my family amazing friendships.

6.What is your favorite class exercise?

Sledgehammers and hip raises! And I love the group runs for Run Club, which I never expected. (Sorry, I can’t choose one!)

7. What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?

Mom-to-mom communication covers it ALL, and with zero judgment! In all seriousness, though, I never understood the phrase “it takes a village” until I became a mom, and my village is so unbelievably supportive.

8. What is your proudest mommy moment so far?

Introducing Jonah to his baby brother, and watching their relationship unfold. It literally makes my heart swell! (And I’m going to be pretty darn proud crossing the finish line of the next 5k pushing both boys in the double!)

9.Any advice for other moms out there?

It can be so hard to get out of the house and out of your comfort zone, but it is so worth it - and that goes for exercise and motherhood!

Kim-As you head back to work after your maternity leave we wish you the best and can't wait to see you cross the finish line in October with both of your boys!! Thanks for being such an special part of our village! We love you!
