September means back to school time and what a perfect time to spotlight our next Motivating Mom of the Month! This mama is headed back to work but we love knowing that we will continue seeing her on the weekends as she is one of our dedicated Saturday mamas during the school year! We have loved having her and her crew around this summer as she is a constant source of hard work, kindness and positive energy! Thank you, Tara for being part of Our Village! We love you!
"Here we have a mom who shows us how the balancing act is mastered: hard core and happy, smiling and sweating, fit and fun-loving! While this mom, teacher, and fitness enthusiast makes it look easy, we see the work she puts in throughout the school year, on weekends, and all summer long! Tara is such an inspiring mom with a contagious positive attitude, no-nonsense approach to her workouts, and dedication to her family. We are so lucky to have you as a part of our village and hope to inspire you the way you do us as our motivating mom in one of the craziest months for a teacher! We love you"! -Instructor Lisa
"Tara is a joy. She is relatable, approachable, and personable. Being with her always leaves me, as well as everyone she interacts with, feeling uplifted, positive, and energized. What a pleasure it is to see Tara in full mom-mode at class, singing, smiling, and sweating the whole way through! Tara does not waste a single minute of class. She epitomizes “being in the moment”, taking advantage of every opportunity to increase her fitness level while connecting with her children. They are all the better for it and it shines bright in their smiling faces and happy dispositions. Tara sets a great example for her fellow full-time working mamas on how to make fitness a priority. She squeezes in workouts on weekends, holidays, and then joins us all summer long! Tara, thank you for all you do to motivate and lift us up! We love you"!! - Instructor Sarah
"Tara is the mom who is silently working hard at every class. She continues to amaze me with her speed and strength at each and every class. Not only is her physical strength incredible but she is one of the nicest moms ever! She will always engage you in conversation and allow you to be happier. She truly is an incredible mother who engages her kids and allows all the moms to feel special". - Instructor Colleen
"Tara is consistently positive, up beat and dedicated to working out and being a mother. Her patience shines through as she answers requests from her children, all while keeping her heart beat up and he'd strength training going. She is kind and thoughtful to everyone that she comes in contact with. It is always a pleasure and a joy to have Tara in class"! - Instructor Meghan
1. Who are the members of your family?
Myself, my husband Pat, Sean (3 1/2), and Madelyn (16 mths)
2. What is/was your career?
This school year will my 12th as a Middle School Math Teacher.
3. List 3 of your favorite things:
The color pink, dessert, and playing with my kids (which somehow often tends to end in a crazy dance party)
4. What would your partner say is your best quality?
According to him it is that I never give up once I put my mind to something and that I have a strong family first mentality.
5. How long have you been a member of FIT4MOM Southeast Fairfield County, and what has it done for you?
I joined in June 2016 as soon as I was cleared to workout after having Madelyn. Struggling with postpartum anxiety I was looking for ways to get back to my old self. From the moment I came to my very first class I knew I had stumbled upon something truly special. The village that Courtney has created with the motivating teachers, supportive mamas, and fun, friendly workout environment was just what I needed. Not only could I take care of myself but I could bring my kids with me. Over the course of the past year I have gained confidence in myself, gotten amazing advice from fellow mamas, and gained a new support network that I could never have dreamed of. I just wish I had known about this back when Sean was born.
6. What is your favorite class exercise?
Sean would argue that it's anything that involves squats. Madelyn would argue it's the Brown Bear, Brown Bear planks. Although both of those are enjoyable, I would say any of the Barre exercises where I can embrace that shake is what I like best. It's so hard during but so worth it in the end. It also reminds me of when I was younger and used to take ballet lessons.
7. What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?
That it is one of the craziest emotional roller coaster rides one could ever take. In the course of one day I could experience so many emotions that I never thought was possible.
8. What is your proudest mommy moment so far?
Watching my kids grow and play with one another while developing their sibling bond. I have always been close to my three siblings and hope they will as well.
9. Any advice for other moms out there?
That the days always seem long but the years are short. Enjoy every moment that you can of the crazy journey called motherhood because it goes by so quickly. Try to focus on the good moments and don't beat yourself up over the bad. You are doing an amazing job!
Wishing you a great school year, Tara and thank you for all you do! We love you!
